I read all three of these novels. The writer is highly skilled with words and certainly has some interesting ideas. However, his motives for writing these books seemed, to me, quite transparent. I've never liked books with an obvious agenda, and these are no exception. Pullman's apparent mission is to vilify religion in general (with the possible exception of Wicca) and the Christian church in particular. The whole "evil priesthood" scene all over again. Yawn.The salvation of Pullman's fantasy world lies in a young woman having ... relations with her lover. In other words, in the book's view, eating the apple. This metaphor displays a lamentable lack in understanding as to the true concept of original sin, which concept has nothing to do with sex. It's a common misinterpretation, but an author of Pullman's stature, writing a book series like this one, should know better.Pullman works hard to give his book a tragic ending, but it left me way short on tears. Not that I can't be moved by the separation of lovers, but one sees this coming for miles and miles, and the reasons for the enforced misery are quite weak.I very much enjoyed reading the Harry Potter series, both for my daughter and for myself, though it does also have some serious logical weaknesses. Nevertheless, the weaknesses are much less obvious than in The Dark Materials series, and the stories, though rich in moral content, lack the odor of the vendetta so prevalent in Dark Materials.Unless you like reading books with a bone to pick, give this one a miss. You'll spend your time much more pleasantly elsewhere.

Only have had it for about 1 hour but it works great!strong wire, strong grip and just the right length Only con is when I was tightening on to my bed frame I did it to tight and started to hear a slight cracking noise so don't over tightin on wide objects besides that its working great!ordering one for my wife's side

Can I mention that I love this thing? It's awesome!! I got an adjustable bed and I just wanna lay flat on my back with my feet up and not have to look either direction and I have to hold my arms up to watch my phone. So with this I can just attach it to my table and hanging over my face basically and lay there and watched TV. It's so strong I'm not even worried that it's going to drop on me or drop my phone or anything.

The material is very solid which is great bc it stays in one place and doesnt move but also is a little too solid meaning its tough to move easy, you have to really give it a tug. I suggest when bending the neck that you hold it by just the neck, not one hand on the base or balljoint. It takes a lot of force to bend the neck...as it should, and the force may be too much for the base or balljoint.

This phone holder is stronger than I expected. I thought it would be slightly flimsy, but it is actually pretty solid. The only thing is with it being so solid, it is a little stiff to move around and get into position. But once in position, it is very reliable and you don't have to worry it or whatever it is holding slipping or falling out. I use it to watch movies while I lay in bed. I used to hold them with my hand, now I can put my hands anywhere I need them. Hehe. But it!

This is the second Andrew Loomis book that publisher Titan Books has reprinted. Just like Figure Drawing for All It's Worth, this is a large format hardcover with a dust jacket. The production quality is excellent and it's a faithful reprint of the original content.There are 5 parts to the book. The first 4 parts covers the drawing of head for men, women, babies, kids and teenagers. The last part is on drawing hands. The instructions are insightful and simple to follow. Illustrated examples are beautiful.The section on drawing hands is not a lot but I guess still adequate enough. If you want a good book on drawing hands, check out Drawing Dynamic Hands by Burne Hogarth.It's great that this classic is reprinted because everyone can own one now. This is a great companion book to figure drawing books. Highly recommended.

The 3 stars are based in comparison to the other Loomis books which are excellent. This is why I reservedly only give it a 3. I was expecting much more actual drawing and this book seemed more sparse in information than the others. So while the book is useful and instructive it is more an add it to your Loomis collection. If you are new to the artist I would choose Figure Drawing or Creative Illustration.As far as complaints that the book is dated - it's from the 1940's. Doesn't mean you can't glean information from it or learn anything from that period.

The book itself is excellent. Lots of great information on how to draw the human face. It's from the 1940s, so the illustrations have a beautiful vintage look to them. If you want to get the printed version, it's a good investment.However . . . the Kindle version is a joke. It's actually a scanned version of someone's personal copy, complete with underlining! Not only that, but every page is an image, which you have to click on to view full-sized! It's absolutely horrible. I saw another Kindle version of this book (even cheaper) and it got pulled, I believe, because of complaints about it being a scanned copy of someone's used book. So I bought this one instead, but it's exactly the same! Unbelievable. I was a bit surprised that the Kindle edition was so much cheaper than the hardback copy, but apparently it's true---you get what you pay for. Now we know why it's so cheap!If you want to learn how to draw faces and hands, don't waste your money on the Kindle version. Save up for the actual book, which is a gem. I'm giving this four stars, because I don't believe it's fair to bring the entire book's rating down based on the moronic Kindle edition. But Amazon seriously needs to look into this.

One of the hands down best books on heads and hands you can find. I love Andrew's attitude of "don't just copy me, but use these lessons to discover your own style." A true master of his craft, this book (and all his books) have something to offer for the amateur and professional alike.

There is a ton of info in here. Epic book. A little more engaging than Hogarth's "Drawing the human head" in my opinion. However, this is *not* a quick study. Just making it past the first few pages will be days and even months of practice ( if you want to get it right ). Worth the time though, if you are serious about learning.

1) At 12 dollars this would be ok as a paperback, not worth the money or a need to be a hardback 6 dollar kindle at best2) Good and informative but not great, broad shallow coverage, but covers a lot of ground.3) Good simple concept coverage but the examples have kind of a cartoonish simplicity to them4) A lot of hit and run topic coverage with topics concepts concise and covered with one page of simple illustrations5) All concepts very clear and presented with minimal but effective explanations ...easy to learn.I do not regret buying the book, there is decent information even if the visual examples are only simple Joe average Norman Rockwell, suburbanite types, however buy it used if you can, at the new book price it is way overpriced for what you get.

An old warhorse that I am grateful has been reproduced as it has been the 'go to' book for so many artists, illustrators and animators. Once you have dinned the info in here into your head you'll have the basic tools to draw the head and hands in any position. It is not the magic bullet that a lot of Youtube commenters seem to be after ("What brush/pencil do you use?) - it is the start point for good drawing skills that will give your creativity a solid base to take off from.

If you wish to draw the figure you should buy the Loomis books...all of them...they are the first two years of a good art school encapsulated into four or five books. Go through the lesson plans and you really will learn to draw. They have finally been reissued and are magnificent.Well worth the money.

Loomis is really a "must have" for anyone inclined toward an artistic pursuit. While there are pdf files available online, these are far superior in quality, usability and durability. In an era of digital, I'm thrilled to find these superb resources! My thanks to the publisher...I've already pre-ordered the next in line.Now, for the actual content...for those that are not familiar with Loomis, do yourself a favor and review his work FIRST. I've purchased many different tutorials but by far, Loomis is the best. His explanations are readable, engaging and pertinent. Examples are detailed yet not overwhelming. Trouble-shooting always seems to be right on target. Best of all, his understanding of the body is unsurpassed! The information on Head and Hands builds upon that of the general works. Originally I waivered on whether or not this was needed since there is some discussion in other works...due to the superb detailed instruction, I opted to purchase this and very glad I did so!While many topics are fine for digital, this is one area where print really makes a difference.

This book blew me away! For serious students of the mind-body connection, this will open new doors to new awareness regarding health, disease, cell memory, emotions and the power of the mind. I couldn't put it down. Very compelling reading!

Amazing material. This book brings light to how much more we need to bring into our health care system. I am much more aware of how powerful our minds are to our bodies.

Hands of Life is an excellent book for all energy healers as well all in the medical field. She gives numerous stories that are in the wheel house of most of humanity. The only reason I did not give this book is unless one is actively learning and working with some sort of energy healing (which there are many) is I would have liked more information on either how this work is done for the affect or more information on who to contact for classes.

This under-appreciated book is far and away the best book on screenwriting I've ever come across, and I've read them all. Whether the author is a successful industry screenwriter doesn't really matter, much more accomplished screenwriters have written books that don't measure up to this one. This book is simple, concise, and and comes from a place of humility. A screenwriting book isn't going to make anyone a great screenwriter, but this book can be a very useful tool for just about anyone trying to improve their craft.

Great book that is very easy to follow if you want to be a screenwriter. I purchased it for a class and came quickly and in good condition. It seriously is very clear cut and helped me learn a lot of the basics which are essential.

Useful...I now just do improves with actors and note dialogue I like, but if you want to write from scratch, this book will serve as a great start.

A little out-dated but still useful.

If you purchase this book don't expect to find great inspiration for writing your next short film. Yeah, there's a wealth of information about progression in story telling and the importance of theme/subtext/meaning. However, this book lacks insight on how to write and structure a SHORT film; something its title more or less promises. To top it off, the chapters are poorly organized and many sections consistently introduce "new" subjects which are nothing more than recycled ideas from previous pages. Annoying. I'm surprised it's a staple in so many classrooms.In lieu of this book I'd recommend "Writing Short Scripts" by William H. Phillips, which contains practical advice drawn from 5 scripts printed within the book--two of which were very successful in the festival circuit. Great book. And no, I'm not pimping it out for any other reason than it's head and shoulders above this one and a far better read.
