First impressions count, and while I could have waited until reading the entire publication, I fear that I might not even get through it. This is your typical pamphlet expanded to book size in order to justify book pricing. The first 10 to 12% is a tedious overly-wordy explanation of why the book is so great, and bludgeons the reader with the name of the book over and over and over again, as "...All Gain, No Pain takes full advantage of breathing's effects..." etc. It's like listening to a Donald Trump speech - a ton of self-promotion. To make matters worse, a carelessly assembled table of items to check off for sleep hygiene is misleading by virtue of two items being reversed with respect to whether they should be answered "yes" or "no" by the reader. I'm going to give this guy the benefit of the doubt and suffer through his overly verbose presentation (it's a lot like listening to Rachel Maddow yammer on for a half hour in order to get to her eventual point.) But I'm not optimistic. This book reads like one of those Internet marketing pages that have you read through dozens and dozens and dozens of screens before you get to the bottom line, and it's not fun, believe me.

For the first time that I can remember, I have read a book cover to cover in one sitting. Bill Hartman has done something very rarely, if ever, seen in a fitness book. First, he addresses ALL topics required for a lifestyle upgrade. Nutrition, fitness, stress management, habit forming, and perception altering (RAS training). Almost all fitness writings never even mention most of these things; much less address them in a concrete way as they are here. The other thing he does is deftly balance between instantly actionable steps you can take to achieve your goals and long-term habits you will need that will effortlessly maintain your success for life. Einstein referenced making things as simple as possible, but no simpler. Bill has done this to perfection. He does not try to bewilder you with medical terminology, industry jargon, or an array of polysyllabic words. He also does not talk down to the reader with gross over-simplifications and a “do this because I say so” attitude. This book is truly a blueprint/framework. It lets you benefit from his, literal, decades of experience while you take point on your own journey of betterment.

As someone who works in the fitness industry and specializes in regular people looking to burn fat and build muscle, I can't say enough what a breath of fresh air this book is. In an industry full of questionable advice, I'm so grateful someone with Bill's experience has written a book.You can always tell when someone works with "actual" people and isn't simply talking about theory. What's incredible about "All Gain No Pain" is that it takes information and techniques that *could* be complicated and boils them down in way a that makes them understandable and immediately accessible. I can't recommend this book enough if you're looking for the best workouts to gain muscle mass, burn fat, and feel amazing.

I consult and train many men over the age of 40. The discussion always ends up going towards what they use to be able to do at 25 years old or even younger. This book proves that you can look 25 if you train like the over 40 year old that you currently are!!! Everything from burning fat and building muscle is in this book. I often give and recommend homework to clients to do outside their sessions. This book will save lots of discussions for me as well as be a great resource at your fingertips.
